North York rips Oakville, 4-1

The North York Rangers had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Oakville Blades.

The win gave North York a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Rangers were led by goalie Jason Pucciarelli, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Pucciarelli will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

North York was paced by Taylor Pryce, who had one goal. Pryce scored on the power play 18:41 into the first period to make the score 2-0 North York. The Rangers had gained a power play chance when Greg Campbell was whistled for high sticking. Ryan Kinsella picked up the assist.

North York's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Oakville power plays. The Rangers' offense rang up 35 shots on Oakville's net.

North York additionally got points from Corey Kalk, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and John Carpino, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for North York came via Valadao Adam, who had two and Liam Kerins and Michael Giacometti, who each chipped in one.

The Blades' offense rang up 34 shots on North York's net. Penalties took their toll on Oakville, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

The Blades were led by Luke Laidlaw, who scored the team's only goal. Laidlaw scored 12:23 into the second period to make the score 3-1 North York. Kyle Jenkins provided the assist.

The Rangers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Oakville's Evan Buitenhuis stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Blades incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
