Welland boosted by McDougall's play in net, beats Stoney Creek 4-1

The Welland Jr. Canadians relied on the sparkling performance of Chris McDougall in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Stoney Creek Warriors.

The win by Welland broke a deadlock and gave the Jr. Canadians a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Stoney Creek's power play was ineffective against Welland's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Jr. Canadians were paced by Riley Brooks, who registered one goal. Brooks scored 9:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Welland. Lapine Rob picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:53 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Welland also got a goal from CJ Stellato as well. In addition, Welland received assists from Adam Mataya, Matt Gillard, Brooker Muir, Seebach M, Derrik Vannas, Drake Lynds, and Ryan Migliaccio, who contributed one a piece.

The Warriors stifled Welland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Stoney Creek's offense rang up 34 shots on the Jr. Canadians' net.

The Warriors were led by Cordell James, who scored the team's only goal. James scored on the power play 19:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Stoney Creek had taken the advantage when Welland's M got sent off for tripping. Marco Mattina assisted on the tally.

McDougall rejected 33 shots on goal for the Jr. Canadians. Welland totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Team's Jason Lacroix, Josh Gervais, and Rob were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Warriors' Alexander Brooks-Potts stopped 16 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Stoney Creek ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. The Warriors ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Luke Zupan was ejected from the game.
