Huge game by Lewis boosts Stoney Creek over Welland, 8-3

Behind a great game by Ryan Lewis, who had two goals and one assist, the Stoney Creek Warriors defeated the Welland Jr. Canadians, 8-3.

Lewis found the back of the net 9:20 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 12:57 into the second to make the score 3-1 Stoney Creek.

With the win, Stoney Creek evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:37 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Warriors stifled Welland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Stoney Creek also got points from Matt Schewer, who also registered one goal and one assist, Wesley St. Amand, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Jake Milligan, who also had one goal and one assist, and Alexander Zaccaria, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Jordan Thomas as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stoney Creek were Jake Bain, Marco Mattina, and Brandon Mclennan, who each chipped in one and Harry Polyoka, Luke Zupan, Zach Niemanen, and Blake Luscombe, who contributed two a piece.

The Jr. Canadians put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Stoney Creek to score on any of its four power plays.

Welland was led by Josh Gervais, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Gervais scored the first of his two goals at 5:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Matt Gillard provided the assist. Gervais' next tally made the score 8-3 Stoney Creek with 1:56 left in the third period. Ryan Migliaccio assisted on the tally. Braden Curry also scored for Welland.

Alexander Brooks-Potts rejected 18 shots on goal for the Warriors. Stoney Creek ended with 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors. For the Warriors, Neil Aird and Dave Eccles were ejected from the contest. The Jr. Canadians took out Chris McDougall after he had made 11 saves and installed Matt Coulombe in goal, where he finished with 11 saves and the loss. Welland totaled 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Team's Riley Brooks and Chris Langdon were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
