Schammel's goals lift Red Wing to 6-2 victory over Alexandria

Behind a great game by Nicole Schammel, who had four goals, the Red Wing Wingers defeated the Alexandria Cardinals, 6-2.

Schammel's first goal came 11:18 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:59 into the first, at 15:33 into the first, and at 10:09 into the second.

Red Wing forced Alexandria goalie Amy Jost to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Red Wing additionally got points from Reagan Haley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Emily Stegora, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Red Wing were Paige Haley, who had one.

The Cardinals did not rack up many penalties in the contest, totaling only one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Alexandria relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Shelby Iverson, Taylor Ellingson and Becca Illies took 14 of the team's 27 shots. The Cardinals got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Alexandria was helped by Nicole Bartels, who had one goal. Bartels scored 4:29 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kaila DeWanz picked up the assist. Lauren Niska also scored for Alexandria.

The Wingers' Ashley Corcoran stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Red Wing incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Amy Jost made 27 saves for the Cardinals on 33 shots. Alexandria registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
