Alexandria downs Sartell-St.Stephen, 4-1Bernicks Pepsi Arena Tue, Feb 19, 2013 Matt Resch had two points to lead the Alexandria Cardinals to a 4-1 victory over the Sartell-St.Stephen Sabres. The win gave Alexandria a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. Sartell-St.Stephen was unable to stop the Cardinals from sending pucks towards the net, and Alexandria eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Alexandria additionally got points from Chris Leary, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Alexandria also got a goal from Toby Helgeson as well. More assists for Alexandria came via Tom Schmidt, who had two and Jack Wensman and Aaron Steidl, who each chipped in one. The Sabres excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Sartell-St.Stephen was led by Sam Zwiener, who scored the team's only goal. Zwiener scored 3:54 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Alexandria. Tyler Minkel picked up the assist. Ben Allen rejected 18 shots on goal for the Cardinals. Alexandria incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Elliott Brookins made 29 saves for the Sabres on 33 shots. Sartell-St.Stephen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. |
