Lopez's big game bests Eveleth-Gilbert in 6-1 Marshall School Duluth winMars Lakeview Arena Thu, Feb 21, 2013 The Marshall School Duluth Hilltoppers' Jeremy Lopez had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-1 win over the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears. Lopez scored 10:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Marshall School Duluth. Jack Dodd picked up the assist. Lopez dished an assist on Kris McKinzie's goal that made the score 1-0 Marshall School Duluth at 2:55 into the first period. He added another helper on Cam McClure's goal that made the score 4-0 Marshall School Duluth at 2:37 into the second period.The win gave Marshall School Duluth a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. The Hilltoppers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Eveleth-Gilbert to score on any of its four power plays. Marshall School Duluth forced the Golden Bears goalie Chad Hietela to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Marshall School Duluth also got points from McClure, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Lane Krenzen also scored for Marshall School Duluth. Other players who recorded assists for Marshall School Duluth were Nate Sepp, Kyle Jones, and John McKenna, who each chipped in one. Eveleth-Gilbert stifled the Hilltoppers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Eveleth-Gilbert also got a goal from Nick Moe as well. More assists for Eveleth-Gilbert came via Mitchell Huffman and Brett Kivela, who contributed one a piece. Caden Flaherty recorded 16 saves for Marshall School Duluth. The Hilltoppers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Chad Hietela made 46 saves for the Golden Bears on 52 shots. Eveleth-Gilbert incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
