Lakeville South holds on for 3-2 win against Rochester Mayo

The Lakeville South Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Rochester Mayo Spartans on the way to a 3-2 win.

Lakeville South took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Rochester Mayo storm back on a Ryan Martin goal 7:36 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Lakeville South was paced by Tyler Schumacher, who tallied one goal. Schumacher scored on the power play 16:45 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Lakeville South. The Cougars had taken the advantage when the Spartans' James Johnston got sent off for hooking. Mack Farley provided the assist.

Rochester Mayo was unable to stop Lakeville South from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

Lakeville South also got points from Justin Doeden, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Patrick Lauderdale also scored for Lakeville South. In addition, Lakeville South received assists from Jake Rahbain, who had one.

Other players who recorded assists for Rochester Mayo were Tommy Fjelsted, who had one and Max Whitney, who had two.

Tyler Schumacher made 21 saves for Lakeville South on 23 shots. The Cougars totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Luke Utely recorded 45 saves for the Spartans. Rochester Mayo totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
