White Bear Lake outlasts Roseville, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the White Bear Lake Bears escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Roseville Raiders.

White Bear Lake gained the winning advantage on a goal by A.J. Welch 15:46 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

 

The win gave the Bears chance to take on the Hill Murray Pioneers for an opportunity to move on to this years' MSHSL State Tourney held at the Xcel Energy Center. 

Welch was all over the ice for White Bear Lake, as he had two goals in the win.

The Bears did not rack up many penalties in the contest, racking up only one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

White Bear Lake also got a goal from Jake Wahlin as well. Other players who recorded assists for White Bear Lake were Tommy Giller, who had two.

Roseville kept White Bear Lake's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chase Gorman made 36 saves on 38 shots.

The Raiders were helped by Ross Stecklein, who racked up one goal. Stecklein scored 12:32 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Robb Stautz also scored for Roseville. More assists for Roseville came via Ryan Novotny and Andrerw Colvard, who contributed one a piece.

The Bears registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Zach Larson made 18 saves for Roseville on 21 shots. The Raiders incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
