Hagersville downs Ayr in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Hagersville Hawks' Jesse Ross scored 6:59 into overtime to beat the Ayr Centennials, 5-4 (OT).

Hagersville evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

The Hawks overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Hagersville fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by Ayr's Andrew Richard at 8:37 in the first period. The Hawks tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Alex Mutton at 3:16 in the third period.

Hagersville got the win behind a great game by Ross, who had two goals and one assist. Ross scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:25 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Hagersville. The Hawks had gotten the advantage when the Centennials' Spencer Sweazy was sent off for high sticking. Derek Medeiros provided the assist. Ross' next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Hagersville with 13:01 left in overtime. Nick Halliday assisted on the tally.

Hagersville kept Ayr's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Figueirdo made 27 saves on 32 shots. The Hawks did not rack up many penalties in the contest, totaling only one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Hagersville capitalized on the Centennials' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Hagersville additionally got points from Halliday, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Medeiros, who also finished with two goals and one assist. More assists for Hagersville came via Mitch Green, who had two.

Ayr forced the Hawks goalie Aaron Cormier to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Centennials were led by Brett Gibson, who tallied two goals. Gibson scored the first of his two goals at 25 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Gibson's next tally made the score 3-2 Ayr with 11:42 left in the second period. Mike Wilkins picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Declan Kaster and Nick Hirs, who each chipped in one.

Cormier rejected 34 shots on goal for Hagersville. Ayr incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
