Wainman leads Lakefield to shutout victory over Clarington

The Lakefield Chiefs used a sparkling performance by Zach Wainman to take down the Clarington Eagles, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Lakefield's 3-0 shutout victory.

The win gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Lakefield was led by Eric Schewell, who grabbed one goal. Schewell scored on the power play 1:42 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield. An interference penalty on Brock Ackerman had put the Chiefs on the power play. Nathan Larson provided the assist.

Lakefield excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Chiefs' offense rang up 31 shots on Clarington's net.

Lakefield also got points from Derek Manley, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Connor Blair also scored for Lakefield. More assists for Lakefield came via Jordan Walsh, who had one.

Wainman recorded 29 saves for Lakefield. The Chiefs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Eagles' Anthony DUrso stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Clarington incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
