Picton blows out Amherstview, 8-4

The Amherstview Jets had trouble finding ways to stop the Picton Pirates, which beat Jets, 8-4.

The win gave Picton a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Tyler Kearns had two goals and one assist to lead the Pirates. Kearns scored the first of his two goals at 2:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Picton. Kearns' next tally made the score 8-2 Picton with 17:10 left in the third period. Ryan Sizer picked up the assist.

Picton pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

The Pirates' offense rang up 54 shots on Amherstview's net.

Picton also got points from Geoff Cleminson, who also had one goal and one assist, Evan Greer, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Cole Bolton, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Jacob Panetta also scored for Picton. More assists for Picton came via Kenny Murduff and Eric Hayes, who each chipped in one.

Picton was unable to stop the Jets from sending pucks towards the net, and Amherstview eventually piled up 47 shots on goal.

The Jets were helped by Brett Yake, who tallied two goals. Yake scored the first of his two goals at 5:26 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Picton. Brandon Gilmour assisted on the tally. Yake's next tally made the score 4-2 Picton with 12:43 left in the second period. Amherstview had taken the advantage when the Pirates' Levi George got sent off for cross checking. Cassidy Bruni provided the assist. Amherstview additionally got points from Gilmour, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Amherstview also got a goal from Dan Chadwick as well. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstview were Rhys Webster, who had two and Jesse Stone and Taylor Brown, who contributed one a piece.

Andrew Pearson made 43 saves for Picton on 47 shots. The Pirates registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Jets' James DAndrea stopped 46 shots out of the 54 that he faced. Amherstview totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. The Jets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Bernard was ejected from the game.
