Louisiana squeaks by Pensacola, 5-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Louisiana IceGators escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jeremey Boyer at 19:00 of the third period.

Shawn McNeil and Boyer provided the spark for Louisiana, combining for three goals and two assists. McNeil tallied two goals and one assist and Boyer also notched one goal and one assist.

By firing 29 shots on goal, the IceGators exceeded the 23.9 shots they average per game this year. Louisiana's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 12 shots between them.

Louisiana also got points from Boyer, who also registered one goal and one assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Kirk Byczynski as well. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Matt Lawrance, who had two and Kevin Brojek, Matthew Robertson, and Matt Miller, who contributed one a piece.

Pensacola forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game the Ice Flyers had been spending in the box. Pensacola's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Ice Flyers average 2.5 goals allowed per game. Pensacola's defensemen played well offensively, producing two goals while racking up 10 shots.

The Ice Flyers were helped by Ryan Raven, who finished with two goals and one assist. Raven scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:00 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Pensacola. Pensacola had gained a power play chance when Greg Brown was whistled for high sticking. Tyler Soehner assisted on the tally. Raven's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Pensacola with 17:26 left in the third period. Pensacola also had goals scored by Ron Cramer, who had one and Mike MacIntyre, who had two. More assists for Pensacola came via Jordan Chong, who had two and Brad Cooper, Justin MacDonald, Steve Bergin, and Jeremiah Ketts, who each chipped in one.

Riley Gill recorded 19 saves for the IceGators. Louisiana totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Ice Flyers' Ross MacKinnon stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Pensacola registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
