Norwich penalty kill dominates in 6-1 defeat of Paris

The Paris Mounties failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Norwich Merchants shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-1.

The win by Norwich broke a deadlock and gave the Merchants a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Norwich was led by Dalton Riley, who registered one goal. Riley scored 11:58 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Norwich. Tom Brady picked up the assist.

The Merchants forced Paris' goaltenders to work in net, racking up 43 shots and forcing 37 saves. Andrew Masters made 32 stops and Zach Shompe made five. Norwich stifled the Mounties' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Merchants' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Norwich also got points from Todd Kemp, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Norwich included Drake Morrell, who had two and Zack Morrison and Zach Core, who scored one goal each. In addition, Norwich received assists from Brandon Zimmermann, who had two, Gus Ford, who had three, and Jesse Cave, Brett Parsons, Braeden Shand, and Ryan Stephenson, who each chipped in one.

Paris excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances.

The Mounties were led by Brandan Verasamy, who scored the team's only goal. Verasamy scored 2:31 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Paris. Ian Fowler assisted on the tally.

Matt McGonigle rejected 20 shots on goal for Norwich. The Merchants incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Paris incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
