Buffalo survives St. Michaels comeback, wins 3-2

The St. Michaels Buzzers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Buffalo Jr. Sabres held on for a 3-2 victory.

Buffalo made the score 3-0 on a goal by Tyler Gjurich at 2:54 in the second period, and St. Michaels got as close as 3-2 when Michael Neville scored 13:58 into the third period.

Gjurich had a great game for the Jr. Sabres, netting two goals.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:59 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Buffalo forced the Buzzers goalie Adrian Ignagni to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Pat Egan also scored for Buffalo. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Ryan Schmelzer, Nick Scamurra, and Tim Kielich, who contributed one a piece.

St. Michaels excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Buzzers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. St. Michaels puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Jr. Sabres were unable to stop the Buzzers from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Michaels eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Buzzers were helped by Matt Buckles, who grabbed one goal. Buckles scored 7:09 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Buffalo. David Italiano picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for St. Michaels were Mike Lansdowne, Jared Walsh, and Patrick McCarron, who each chipped in one.

Parker Gahagen rejected 33 shots on goal for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Team's Nathan Pelligra, Scamurra, and Egan were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. St. Michaels' Ignagni stopped 44 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The Buzzers totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For St. Michaels, Jake Clements and Bron Loiselle were ejected from the contest.
