Whitby rips Pickering, 8-2

The Pickering Panthers had trouble finding ways to stop the Whitby Fury, which beat Panthers, 8-2.

Nick Neal had two goals and one assist to lead Whitby. Neal scored the first of his two goals at 8:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Austin Boulard assisted on the tally. Neal's next tally made the score 6-1 Whitby with 11:17 left in the second period. Sean Deroch provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:52 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Fury forced Pickering's goalies to work all game long, taking 34 shots and forcing 26 saves. Conor Barrie made 11 stops and J P Cesario made 15. Whitby found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Fury average 3.1 goals per contest.

Whitby additionally got points from Mike Panowyk, who also registered one goal and one assist and Marco Azzano, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Spencer MacCormack, who had two and Henry Thompson and Steven Deeg, who each put in one. More assists for Whitby came via Taylor Best, who had two, Jonathan OHara, who had three, and Greg Milner and Kevin Stevens, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers were helped by Josh Herrington, who finished with one goal. Herrington scored 1:49 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Whitby. Mark Tenuta assisted on the tally. Pickering also got a goal from Nicholas Lepone as well. In addition, Pickering received assists from Tanner Bull, who had one and Jeff Heard, who had two.

Josh Hickey recorded 25 saves for Whitby. The Fury totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Logan was ejected from the game. Pickering totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Panthers, Tenuta was ejected from the game.
