Cobourg vanquishes Wellington in shootout, 2-1 (3-2 SO)Wellington CC Tue, Feb 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cobourg Cougars defeated the Wellington Dukes in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO). The two teams needed 14 turns to complete the shootout. Wellington's shootout goals were scored by Craig Campbell and Abbot Girduckis. Cobourg also got shootout goals from Taylor Gauld and Mitchell Burghardt.The Cougars came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cobourg trailed 1-0 after a goal by the Dukes' Jake Marchment at 5:05 in the first period. The Cougars knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Mark MacAulay at 6:15 in the first period. Cobourg's Nathan Perry was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 35 saves and let only one puck past him. Perry managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.34 prior to the game. The Cougars kept Wellington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Larose made 34 saves on 36 shots. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Dylan Goddard and Connor Armour, who each chipped in one. The Dukes forced Cobourg goalie Perry to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Wellington were Brody Morris and Josh Finkelstein, who contributed one a piece. The Cougars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Wellington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
