Owatonna beats Winona 8-3 as Ratzloff gets hat trick

Matt Ratzloff netted a hat trick to lead the Owatonna Huskies over the Winona Winhawks, 8-3.

Ratzloff notched his first tally 10:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:42 into the second and at 4:56 into the third.

Winona trailed by one after the first period, but Owatonna went into the second intermission with a 5-1 lead and never looked back.

The Huskies kept the Winhawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Wyatt Hamernick made 36 saves on 44 shots. Owatonna's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Huskies average 2.9 goals per contest. Owatonna cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring two goals on three chances.

Owatonna also got points from Erik Colstrup, who also finished with two goals and two assists and Aaron Kirsch, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Brian Kidd also scored for Owatonna. In addition, Owatonna received assists from Brody Dalland, who had one and Mason Bloomquist, who had two.

Winona was helped by Nick Rowe, who tallied two goals. Rowe scored the first of his two goals at 19 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Alex Johnson picked up the assist. Rowe's next tally made the score 5-2 Owatonna with 18:16 left in the third period. Michael Lubahn provided the assist. Winona additionally got points from Johnson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Winona were Skyler Grossell, who had one and Nick Arnold, who had two.

The Huskies' Luke Ebeling stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Owatonna ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. The Huskies ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kirsch was ejected from the game. The Winhawks totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
