Mikkelson leads Morris/Benson Area over Breckenridge/Wahpeton, 6-3Lee Community Center Tue, Feb 05, 2013 Behind a great game by Tanner Mikkelson, who had two goals and two assists, the Morris/Benson Area Storm defeated the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades, 6-3. Mikkelson scored at 14:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Morris/Benson Area and again while 2:00 into the third to make the score 4-3 Morris/Benson Area.Breckenridge/Wahpeton was unable to stop Morris/Benson Area from sending pucks towards the net, and the Storm eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. Morris/Benson Area's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Morris/Benson Area also got points from Mac Beyer, who also had one goal and one assist and Jordan Staples, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Morris/Benson Area also got a goal from Corey Storck as well. In addition, Morris/Benson Area received assists from Brody Gimberlin, Andrew Rentz, and Eric Johnson, who each chipped in one. The Blades managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Breckenridge/Wahpeton finished below its season average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blades were led by Aaron Neppl, who registered two goals. Neppl scored the first of his two goals at 4:29 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Morris/Benson Area. Neppl's next tally made the score 3-2 Breckenridge/Wahpeton with 5:56 left in the second period. Breckenridge/Wahpeton had gotten the advantage when the Storm's Mikkelson was sent off for kicking player. Brandon Wixo provided the assist. Austin Hagstrom also scored for Breckenridge/Wahpeton. Kyle Kennedy recorded 20 saves for Morris/Benson Area. The Storm avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored one goal off of one power plays. Morris/Benson Area ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mikkelson was ejected from the game. Michael Withuski made 42 saves for the Blades on 48 shots. Breckenridge/Wahpeton registered two goals on zero power play opportunities.
