Georgina completes comeback, beats Clarington, 5-4Garnet B. Rickard Rec Complex Sun, Feb 10, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Georgina Ice climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Clarington Eagles, 5-4. Georgina let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Ice took a 4-3 advantage on a goal by JD Leblond at 14:43 in the second period. Georgina found itself down 3-1 after Clarington's Rory Craddock put the puck home on the power play at 6:29 in the first period. After evening things up at 4-4 on a goal by Dan Michel at 8:03 in the third, the Ice got the game-winner from Devon Smith at 19:15 in the third period. The win gave Georgina a 1-0 lead in the best of five series. The Ice pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 23 penalty minutes. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:00 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Georgina had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. Georgina also got points from AJ Killens, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Tanner Allen, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Georgina also got a goal from Jason Bianie as well. In addition, Georgina received assists from Cam Russel, who had three and Mark McKey, Mitch Mallany, Brandon Basler, and Luke Vanderkooy, who each chipped in one. The Eagles forced the Ice goalie Jake Francis to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. Clarington was led by Blane Gaudon, who tallied two goals. Gaudon scored the first of his two goals at 29 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Clarington. Cody Kean provided the assist. Gaudon's next tally made the score 2-0 Clarington with 16:50 left in the first period. Graham Snoek picked up the assist. More assists for Clarington came via Mitchell Marchbank, Jake Choiniere, Brent Hambly, and Collin McGillis, who contributed one a piece. Jake Francis made 39 saves for Georgina on 43 shots. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Allen was ejected from the game. The Eagles took out Brandon Green after he had made five saves and installed Anthony DUrso in goal, where he finished with 13 saves and the loss. Clarington totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Eagles, Brandon Hesson was ejected from the game.
