Hagersville downs Wellesley in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Hagersville Hawks pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Wellesley Applejacks on a clutch goal by Kyle Parsons.

The win by Hagersville clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

The Hawks came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Hagersville fell behind 5-3 after a goal by Wellesley's Tyler Eckert at 10:56 in the third period. The Hawks knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Eric Drehmer at 19:23 in the third period.

The Applejacks' power play was ineffective against Hagersville's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Wellesley was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hagersville eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in the Applejacks' zone, and came away with two goals.

Hagersville also got points from Drehmer, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Nate Ferris, who also had one goal and one assist. Hagersville also got a goal from Brad Hornby as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Jesse Ross, who had two and Nick Halliday and Mitch Green, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley forced Hagersville goalie Matt Murphy to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Wellesley additionally got points from Troy Williams, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Cody Tapsell, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ryan Michael also scored for Wellesley. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Shawn Fitzpatrick, Steven Tait, Corey Way, and Brett MacDonald, who contributed one a piece.

Murphy recorded 30 saves for the Hawks. Hagersville incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Josh Heer made 34 saves for the Applejacks on 40 shots. Wellesley incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
