The Simcoe Storm took the lead against the Aylmer Spitfires in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-0 victory. Clayton Chalmers provided Simcoe with the game-winning tally when he scored 4:41 into the the first period. A slashing penalty on Scott Walker had put the Storm on the power play. Conner Robinson assisted on the tally.Simcoe evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven. Alex Gegeny spearheaded the defensive effort for the Storm, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 33 saves for the shutout. Gegeny certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.85 entering the contest. Simcoe pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes. The Storm put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Aylmer to score on any of its six power plays. Simcoe forced the Spitfires goalie Lucas Easterbrook to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Nathan Kohler also scored for Simcoe. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Kennan Hall, who had one. Aylmer's offense rang up 33 shots on the Storm's net. Simcoe registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Lucas Easterbrook made 32 saves for the Spitfires on 33 shots. Aylmer incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Spitfires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Adam Szwed was ejected from the game. |
