Huge game by Payne boosts Aylmer over Simcoe, 7-4

Brad Payne had two goals and three assists to lead the Aylmer Spitfires to a 7-4 victory over the Simcoe Storm.

Payne's tallies came on the power play at 11:07 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Aylmer and 19:55 into the third to make the score 7-4 Aylmer.

The win gave Aylmer a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Simcoe was unable to stop the Spitfires from sending pucks towards the net, and Aylmer eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Aylmer also got points from Mike Crawford, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Adam Szwed, who also had one goal and three assists. Others who scored for Aylmer included Jeff Bullas, who had one and Todd Laurindo, who had two. More assists for Aylmer came via Scott Walker, who had two and Mitch Roloson, Adam Brisson, and Keaton McIntyre, who each chipped in one.

The Storm forced the Spitfires goalie Lucas Easterbrook to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. Simcoe had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

The Storm were led by Clayton Chalmers, who finished with one goal and two assists. Chalmers scored on the power play 36 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Simcoe. Kennan Hall picked up the assist. Simcoe additionally got points from Hall, who also registered one goal and one assist. Simcoe also got a goal from Conner Robinson as well. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Zack Van Louwe, Joey Latam, Braden Roberts, and Darrin Pye, who contributed one a piece.

Lucas Easterbrook made 39 saves for Aylmer on 43 shots. The Spitfires incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Alex Gegeny rejected 24 shots on goal for Simcoe. The Storm incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
