Trace leads Stayner to shutout victory over Schomberg

Taylor Trace was superb between the pipes for the Stayner Siskins, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Schomberg Cougars.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Schomberg faces elimination next time out.

Stayner was led by James Mense-Dietrich, who tallied one goal. Mense-Dietrich scored 19:09 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Stayner. Mac Flewelling assisted on the tally.

The Siskins stifled the Cougars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Stayner forced Schomberg goalie Taylor Ewart to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Stayner additionally got points from Flewelling, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Will Gerow also scored for Stayner. More assists for Stayner came via Jeff Hamm, who had two.

The Cougars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Trace rejected 30 shots on goal for the Siskins. Stayner incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ewart recorded 30 saves for Schomberg. The Cougars incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
