West's goals lift Huntsville to 2-1 victory over Fergus

The Huntsville Otters relied on the scoring touch of Ryan West, who netted two goals, to beat the Fergus Devils, 2-1.

West found the back of the net 12:09 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville and again while 6:06 into the third to make the score 2-1 Huntsville.

The win by Huntsville clinched the best of three series at 2-1.

The Otters were led by goalie Tye Greschuk, who finished with 39 saves while allowing one goal. Greschuk certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.92 entering the contest.

Fergus' power play was ineffective against Huntsville's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Otters excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Devils' defense shut down Huntsville's forwards for much of the game, and the Otters got off only 14 shots during the contest.

In addition, Huntsville received assists from Erik Macpherson, who had two and Ben Muckler and Carter Tracey, who each chipped in one.

Fergus stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Otters were unable to stop the Devils from sending pucks towards the net, and Fergus eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

The Devils were led by Mackenzie Cleveland, who scored the team's only goal. Cleveland scored 13:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1. James McLeod assisted on the tally.

Huntsville incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Otters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brendan Fitter was ejected from the game. Alex Elliott made 12 saves for Fergus on 14 shots. The Devils incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
