Huntsville downs Fergus in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Canada Summit Centre Fri, Feb 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Otters pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Fergus Devils on a clutch goal by Erik Macpherson. Huntsville evened the best of three series at 1-1 and forced a deciding game three. Macpherson had a great game for the Otters, netting two goals. Macpherson found the back of the net 18:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Huntsville and again while 5:04 into the fourth to make the score 4-3 Huntsville. Huntsville also got a goal from Jack Campbell as well. More assists for Huntsville came via Ben Muckler, who had two, Ryan West, who had three, and Jay Dix and Brodie Muckler, who each chipped in one. Fergus' offense rang up 39 shots on Huntsville's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Devils were helped by Brandon Mallach, who racked up one goal and one assist. Mallach scored on the power play 1:32 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Huntsville. Patrick Snell picked up the assist. Fergus additionally got points from Snell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. James McLeod also scored for Fergus. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were James Murray and Mike Traves, who contributed one a piece. The Otters' Tye Greschuk stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Huntsville incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Alex Elliott made 24 saves for Fergus on 28 shots. The Devils incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
