Wellesley downs Delhi in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Wellesley Applejacks pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Delhi Travellers on a clutch goal by Steven Tait.

The win gave Wellesley a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Applejacks was paced on offense by Devon Wagner and Tait, who combined for five points. Wagner tallied two goals and Tait also added one goal and two assists.

Wellesley's offense rang up 40 shots on Delhi's net.

Wellesley also got points from Troy Williams, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Tait, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Corey Way, who had two and Reid Denstedt, Michael Pollice, Luke Rose, and Brett MacDonald, who contributed one a piece.

The Travellers were led by Cody Stout, who had two goals. Stout scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wellesley. Delhi had gained a power play chance when Shawn Fitzpatrick was whistled for roughing after whistle. Jordan Betzold assisted on the tally. Stout's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Delhi with 14:53 left in the third period. The Travellers had gotten the advantage when the Applejacks' Jake Ariss was sent off for slashing. Travis Harper picked up the assist. Delhi additionally got points from Betzold, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brendan Schreider also scored for Delhi. More assists for Delhi came via Colin Streutker, Taylor Hockley, and Jamie Newell, who each chipped in one.

Josh Heer recorded 25 saves for Wellesley. The Applejacks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Wellesley, Coleton Madge was ejected from the game. Delhi's Nick Heath stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Travellers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
