Close's goals lift Centennial to 4-1 victory over AndoverSchwan Cup Fri, Dec 28, 2012 Wyatt Close was all over the ice for the Centennial Cougars, as he tallied two goals in Centennial's 4-1 win over the Andover Huskies. Close found the back of the net 5:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Centennial and again while 7:54 into the first to make the score 3-0 Centennial.The Cougars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Andover to score on any of its three power plays. Centennial's offense was clicking better than usual and put 26 shots on goal during the game, better than the 1.8 shot per game it averages. Centennial additionally got points from Adam Anderson, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Centennial also got a goal from Connor Lovick as well. Other players who recorded assists for Centennial were Andrew Bertrand, who had two and Ryan Meany, Hans Gorowsky, Tommy Heron, and Will Schwartz, who each chipped in one. The the Huskies penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Andover surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Huskies excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Andover put 17 shots on net during the contest, more than the 3.7 it averages per game. The Cougars' Blake Miller stopped 16 shots out of the 17 that he faced. Centennial incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Chris Hamling made 22 saves for the Huskies on 26 shots. Andover ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and J.P. Gibbs was ejected from the game. |
