Hopkins' Kimbrel deadly on offense in 9-0 win against Mandan, NDRoseau Memorial Fri, Dec 28, 2012 Behind a great game by Ryan Kimbrel, who had two goals, the Hopkins Royals defeated Mandan, ND, 9-0. Kimbrel scored at 6:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hopkins and again while 10:26 into the second to make the score 7-0 Hopkins.Hopkins featured an improved defense during the game. The Royals gives up 2.1 goals on average per game. Hopkins outdid its season average for goals scored. The Royals average 3.5 goals per game. Hopkins' offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 2.1 shots per game it averages. Hopkins additionally got points from Jonah Shoemaker-Gagnon, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Jim Copouls, who also registered one goal and one assist. Hopkins also had goals scored by Austin Bizal, who had one and Matt Hines and Tim Weiner, who scored two goals each. In addition, Hopkins received assists from Ryan Davis, who had three, Max Ostenso and Trace Bolstad, who contributed one a piece, and Austin Fisher, Anthony Degiulio, and Matt Koch, who each chipped in two. Mandan, ND did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 13 shots on net to force 13 saves. Josh Kuehmichel rejected 13 shots on goal for the Royals. Hopkins incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities. Mandan, ND's Tucker Bruington stopped 31 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Mandan, ND finished the contest with no penalties and went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
