Pine City/Rush City downs North Branch in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Pine City/Rush City Dragons' Jake Kleinsasser scored 2:14 into overtime to beat the North Branch Vikings, 5-4 (OT).

Although Pine City/Rush City was up by as many as two goals in the second period, North Branch kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Vikings pulled to within 4-3 on a power play goal by Tyler cashill at 1:06 in the third period.

Kleinsasser had a great game for the Dragons, netting two goals.

Pine City/Rush City's offense rang up 34 shots on North Branch's net. The Dragons found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Pine City/Rush City averages 2.6 goals per game.

Pine City/Rush City also had goals scored by TJ Gross, who had one and Casey Lucht, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Pine City/Rush City were Adam Swanson, Matt Haglund, Coltin Malchow, Colby Pavelka, Zach Smith, and Danny Pitzen, who each chipped in one.

The Vikings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Dragons to score on any of their six power plays. North Branch could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Vikings were led by Joey Courtright, who registered two goals. Courtright scored the first of his two goals at 2:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Branch. Connor Martineau assisted on the tally. Courtright's next tally made the score 3-2 Pine City/Rush City with 11:08 left in the second period. North Branch also got a goal from Brandon Kratzke as well. In addition, North Branch received assists from Tim Courtright, who had two and Jared Axberg and Brandon Waldo, who contributed one a piece.

Pine City/Rush City's Pitzen stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Dragons ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Tyler Byrkit made 29 saves for North Branch on 34 shots. The Vikings registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
