Wayzata pulls away in second, rolls over Benilde St. Margarets, 7-1

The Wayzata Trojans used a five-goal second period to put away the Benilde St. Margarets Red Knights, 7-1.

Matthew Freytag quarterbacked Wayzata's offense to perfection and bagged four assists in the Trojans' win over Benilde St. Margarets.

Wayzata's offense was sparked by Freytag, as he ended with four assists in a victory against the Red Knights.

The Trojans were often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. Wayzata surpassed its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. The Trojans stifled Benilde St. Margarets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wayzata put 24 shots on net during the contest, more than the 8.7 it averages per game. The Trojans surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Wayzata averages 3.4 goals per contest.

Wayzata also got points from Alex Stevens, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Jack Sorensen, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Wayzata also got a goal from Brian Machut as well. More assists for Wayzata came via Chase Heising, Jalen Wahl, and Alec Hemenway, who each chipped in one.

The Red Knights' offense operated below they season average. Benilde St. Margarets puts an average of 5.8 pucks into the net per game. The Red Knights relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Grant Besse, Nate Labosky and T.J. Moore took 25 of the team's 45 shots. Benilde St. Margarets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Red Knights were led by Seth Chumley, who took one shot.

Aaron Dingman recorded 44 saves for the Trojans. Wayzata registered three goals on six power play opportunities. Andrew Sprang took the loss and made 14 saves before being replaced by Paul Lundberg who made three saves. Benilde St. Margarets registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
