Stillwater wins tough contest against Roseville, 4-3

The Stillwater Ponies gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Roseville Raiders.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Zach Fedie secured the win for Stillwater with a goal in the third period.

Cates Devin had a great game for the Ponies, netting two goals. Devin found the back of the net 1:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stillwater and again while 9:26 into the first to make the score 2-0 Stillwater.

Stillwater put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Roseville to score on any of its four power plays.

Stillwater additionally got points from Nick Anderson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Stillwater received assists from Tyler Fitzsimmons, who had two and Payton Hosch, Mitch Reinke, and Ian Wiesbrod, who each chipped in one.

The Raiders' offense rang up 34 shots on the Ponies' net.

Roseville was helped by Cory Martinez, who had one goal. Martinez scored 3:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stillwater. Robb Stautz picked up the assist. Roseville also got points from Ryan Novotny, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Stautz, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Roseville came via Ross Stecklein, Andrerw Colvard, and Tom McCann, who contributed one a piece.

Colton Anderson recorded 31 saves for Stillwater. The Ponies totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Zach Larson rejected 17 shots on goal for the Raiders. Roseville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
