Albert Lea falls to Rochester Mayo after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Rochester Mayo Spartans battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Albert Lea Tigers.

Rochester Mayo never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Spartans was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Albert Lea's Van Zelenak at 12:28 in the first period. Rochester Mayo tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Ryan Martin at 16:58 in the first period. The Spartans got the game winner at 7:45 in the second period on a goal by Martin.

Rochester Mayo was sparked by Tommy Hanson, who tallied one goal.

The Spartans forced the Tigers goalie Garret Matz to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Rochester Mayo additionally got points from Martin, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Rochester Mayo also got a goal from Adam Alcott as well. In addition, Rochester Mayo received assists from Max Whitney, who had one.

Lucas Peterson also scored for Albert Lea. Other players who recorded assists for Albert Lea were Larry Olson and Matt Cheever, who contributed one a piece.

Rochester Mayo's Case Hansen stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Spartans incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Matz rejected 29 shots on goal for Albert Lea. The Tigers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
