Portland beats Salem 4-0 as Riddle gains shutout

The Portland Jr Pirates used a sparkling performance by Cam Riddle to take down the Salem Ice Dogs, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Portland's 4-0 shutout victory.

The Jr Pirates were paced by Timothy Storey, who tallied one goal. Storey scored on the power play 1:14 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Portland. Portland had gained a power play chance when Nicholas Latham was whistled for roughing. Evan Jewell picked up the assist.

The Jr Pirates excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Portland kept Salem's goalie busy throughout the game, and Shawn Horton made 38 saves on 42 shots.

Portland additionally got points from Michael Donato, who also had one goal and one assist. Portland also got a goal from Kenneth Richards as well. In addition, Portland received assists from Robert Downing, Jason Harmon, Nick Robinson, Nicholas Whitten, and Dennis Patenaude, who contributed one a piece.

The Ice Dogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. Salem had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Ice Dogs could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Salem averages 2.4 goals per game.

Riddle recorded 27 saves for the Jr Pirates. Portland totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-8 on the power play.
