Brainerd uses fast start to beat River Lakes, 6-1River Lakes Tue, Dec 04, 2012 A four-goal first period deficit cost the River Lakes Stars, which could not recover and fell to the Brainerd Warriors, 6-1. Brainerd was led by Thomas Stoxen, who grabbed one goal. Stoxen scored 51 seconds into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brainerd. Logan Rivard provided the assist. The Warriors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow River Lakes to score on any of its four power plays. Brainerd kept the Stars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Skluzacek made 43 saves on 49 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Brainerd also got points from Jacob Ellingson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Jed Rusk, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brainerd also got a goal from Isaac Johnson as well. Eric Zimmer also scored for River Lakes. More assists for River Lakes came via Stefan Tomovic and Reed pfannenstein, who each chipped in one. Kyle Helmberger recorded 22 saves for the Warriors. Brainerd incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. River Lakes ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Stars, Tomovic was ejected from the game.
