Minneapolis blows out Minnehaha Academy, 8-1

The Minneapolis Novas were firing on all cylinders against the Minnehaha Academy Red Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Novas emerged with an 8-1 win.

Minneapolis forced Minnehaha Academy's netminders to work in net, launching 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Tommy Adams made 23 stops and Alex Katz made six. The Novas stifled the Red Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Minneapolis outdid its season average for goals scored. The Novas average 5.0 goals per game.

Minneapolis was led by Henry Christman, who grabbed one goal and five assists. Christman scored 2:17 into the third period to make the score 8-1 Minneapolis. Minneapolis additionally got points from Tony Pnewski, who also tallied one goal and three assists and Stellan Christensen, who also registered one goal and one assist. Minneapolis also had goals scored by Josh Huisken, who had one and Ross Nesbit and Jimmy Roth, who scored two goals each. In addition, Minneapolis received assists from Peter Hacker, Cris Grassel, and Jack Larson, who each chipped in one.

Minnehaha Academy was held below its usual level of production. The Red Hawks put an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. The Novas' defense shut down Minnehaha Academy's forwards for much of the game, and the Red Hawks got off only 13 shots during the contest.

Minnehaha Academy was led by Ryan Evenson, who scored the team's only goal. Evenson scored 15:51 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Minneapolis. Erik Madryga provided the assist.

Minneapolis' starting goalie, TJ Moseley, made nine saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Erik Toftner, who stopped three shots. The Novas totaled 46 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 2-for-2 on the power play. Minneapolis ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ian Whitehead was ejected from the game. The Red Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
