NY AppleCore downs Springfield in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The NY AppleCore Minor B's Jonas Toupal scored 2:31 into overtime to beat the Springfield Pics, 6-5 (OT).

Jonathan Kaszuba was all over the ice for NY AppleCore, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Kaszuba scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Minor B had taken the advantage when Springfield's Nicholas Sibilia got sent off for cross checking. Blake Manginell picked up the assist. Kaszuba's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 NY AppleCore with 3:20 left in the second period. Cale Schoenberg assisted on the tally.

The NY AppleCore penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Minor B surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. NY AppleCore forced the Pics goalie Ian Milosz to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Minor B found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. NY AppleCore averages 3.6 goals per game. The Minor B gave up more goals than its normal season average. NY AppleCore gives up 2.5 goals per game. The defensemen of the Minor B were also effective in Springfield's zone, and came away with two goals.

NY AppleCore additionally got points from Schoenberg, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Toupal, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Liam Pues, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Andrew DeAngelis also scored for NY AppleCore. Other players who recorded assists for NY AppleCore were Andrew Barroso and Cameron Giertych, who contributed one a piece.

The Pics racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Springfield had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Springfield also got points from Logan Schinabeck, who also registered one goal and two assists and Matthew Antonacci, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Springfield also got a goal from Brandon Korytko as well. More assists for Springfield came via Riley Green, who had one and Thane Schinabeck and Mario Fontanella, who contributed two a piece.

Christoph Mutschin rejected 14 shots on goal for NY AppleCore. The Minor B registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Milosz recorded 34 saves for the Pics. Springfield registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. The Pics ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and William Carrabino was ejected from the game.
