Springfield uses shootout to best Suffolk, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Springfield Pics defeated the Suffolk Juniors in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Suffolk got a shootout goal from Christopher Seeback. Springfield also got a shootout goal from Thane Schinabeck.

The Pics overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Springfield fell behind 2-0 after a goal by the Juniors' Michael Leone at 10:26 in the first period. The Pics tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Mario Fontanella at 8:49 in the second period.

Springfield was led by Fontanella, who grabbed one goal.

The Pics put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Suffolk to score on any of its three power plays.

Schinabeck also scored for Springfield. In addition, Springfield received assists from Brandon Korytko, Logan Schinabeck, Matthew Antonacci, and Stefan Koproske, who contributed one a piece.

The Juniors managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Suffolk ended up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game.

Other players who recorded assists for Suffolk were Donato Cipriano, falino, Benjamin Sorkin, and Michael Gilroy, who each chipped in one.

Matthew Blascak made 22 saves for Springfield on 24 shots. The Pics incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Peter Fosso recorded 14 saves for the Juniors.
