Tampa Bay falls to Syracuse in overtime, 5-4 (OT)NESC Rink 6 Fri, Sep 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Syracuse Junior Stars pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Juniors on a clutch goal by Garth Gray. Syracuse overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Junior Stars fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Tampa Bay's Austin Teall at 1:16 in the second period. Syracuse tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jesse Farabee at 18:00 in the second period. The Junior Stars were led by Gray, who registered one goal. Gray scored 4:01 into overtime to make the score 5-4 Syracuse. Anthony Angello picked up the assist. Syracuse excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Junior Stars forced the Juniors goalie Emil Eriksson to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Syracuse got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Syracuse additionally got points from Conner Doren, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Angello, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tom Nicholson also scored for Syracuse. Other players who recorded assists for Syracuse were Steven Staversky, who had one. Tampa Bay put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Junior Stars to score on any of their three power plays. The Juniors' offense rang up 35 shots on Syracuse's net. More assists for Tampa Bay came via Dylan Longo, Roope Hintz, Zachary Capco, and Tucker Barone, who contributed one a piece. Matt Schneider rejected 31 shots on goal for the Junior Stars. Syracuse incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Junior Stars, Tyler OMara was ejected from the game. Tampa Bay's Eriksson stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Juniors incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
