Zerr's big game bests Hutchinson in 8-5 Marshall win

Behind a great game by Leo Zerr, who had two goals and one assist, the Marshall Tigers defeated the Hutchinson Tigers, 8-5.

Zerr found the back of the net short handed 2:26 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while short handed 11:25 into the second to make the score 6-4 Marshall.

Marshall forced Hutchinson goalie Kellyn Buss to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Tigers' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Marshall gives up 2.5 goals per game.

Marshall also got points from Alex Buysse, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Andrew Bell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Marshall also had goals scored by Tyler Untiedt, who had one and Beau Mikel, who had three. In addition, Marshall received assists from Quinn Horvath, who had two.

The Tigers kept the Tigers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Cavazos made 39 saves on 44 shots.

Hutchinson was helped by Logan Goosen, who had two goals. Goosen scored the first of his two goals at 1:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hutchinson. Cody Nielson provided the assist. Goosen's next tally made the score 2-1 Hutchinson with 12:19 left in the first period. Nielson assisted on the tally. Hutchinson additionally got points from Austin Mandelkow, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Nielson, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Matthew Cowger also scored for Hutchinson. Other players who recorded assists for Hutchinson were Tory Adams and Carter Mandelkow, who contributed one a piece.
