Stoffel's goals lift Park of Cottage Grove to 5-2 victory over Woodbury

Behind a great game by Eric Stoffel, who had two goals, the Park of Cottage Grove Wolfpack defeated the Woodbury Royals, 5-2.

Stoffel found the back of the net 2:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 5:50 into the third to make the score 4-2 Park of Cottage Grove.

Woodbury was unable to stop Park of Cottage Grove from sending pucks towards the net, and the Wolfpack eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Park of Cottage Grove surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Wolfpack average 2.4 goals per game.

Park of Cottage Grove also had goals scored by Jake Young, who had one and Christopher Peterson, who had two. More assists for Park of Cottage Grove came via Alex Kielsa, who had two and Fletcher Rheault, Nickolas Perry, and Russel Damsgard, who contributed one a piece.

The the Royals penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. Woodbury had been averaging 8.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Royals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Park of Cottage Grove to score on any of its seven power plays.

Woodbury was helped by Jordan Graham, who racked up one goal. Graham scored 3:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodbury. Dan Armstrong assisted on the tally. Evan Roepke also scored for Woodbury. In addition, Woodbury received assists from Hayden Shaw, who had one.

Matthew Palmquist recorded 17 saves for the Wolfpack. Park of Cottage Grove incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Evan Broadbent made 26 saves for the Royals on 31 shots. Woodbury registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
