Frederick Freeze uses shootout to best Islanders Hockey Club, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Frederick Freeze defeated Islanders Hockey Club in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Frederick Freeze outdid its season average for goals scored. Frederick Freeze averages 2.7 goals per game. Frederick Freeze capitalized on Islanders Hockey Club's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. Frederick Freeze got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed four goals during the game.

Frederick Freeze was led by Nathan Hefner, who registered two goals. Hefner scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 18:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Frederick Freeze had gotten the advantage when Islanders Hockey Club's Andy Loranger was sent off for charging. Ben Margolis assisted on the tally. Hefner's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Frederick Freeze with 23 seconds left in the first period. Denzil Cotera picked up the assist. Bradley Howington also scored for Frederick Freeze. Other players who recorded assists for Frederick Freeze were Nathan Miller, who had two and Alexander Olson and Taylor Powell, who each chipped in one.

The defensemen of Islanders Hockey Club were also effective in Frederick Freeze's zone, and came away with two goals.

Islanders Hockey Club was helped by Matthew Blais, who finished with two goals. Blais scored the first of his two goals at 31 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Islanders Hockey Club. Evan Beatty assisted on the tally. Blais' next tally made the score 4-4 with -264 seconds left in the second period. Eric Legere picked up the assist. Islanders Hockey Club additionally got points from Loranger, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Islanders Hockey Club also got a goal from Ryan Loranger as well. In addition, Islanders Hockey Club received assists from Christopher Price, who had one.

Frederick Freeze incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Islanders Hockey Club totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play.
