Prairie Centre wins tough contest against Redwood Valley, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Prairie Centre North Stars escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Redwood Valley Cardinals.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Zack Pierskalla's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Prairie Centre was sparked by Pierskalla, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Pierskalla scored 10:08 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Prairie Centre. Sam Ecker assisted on the tally.

The North Stars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Prairie Centre forced Redwood Valley goalie Jordan Houle to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The North Stars' goal total was higher than their season average. Prairie Centre has scored at the pace of 1.5 goal per game during the current campaign.

Cody Steward also scored for Prairie Centre. In addition, Prairie Centre received assists from Preston Pung, who had one.

The Cardinals managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Redwood Valley finished below its season average of 7.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cardinals' offense rang up 39 shots on the North Stars' net.

Redwood Valley was helped by Austin Kretsch, who racked up one goal. Kretsch scored 4:42 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Logan Sandgren picked up the assist. Redwood Valley also got points from Sandgren, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Redwood Valley were Hunter Breidenbach, Jacob Prouty, and Niko Berge, who contributed one a piece.

Clay Deters made 37 saves for Prairie Centre on 39 shots. The North Stars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Cardinals' Houle stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced.
