Alexandria survives penalties, beats Prairie Centre, 5-0Runestone Thu, Nov 29, 2012 The Alexandria Cardinals, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Prairie Centre North Stars' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-0 victory. Alexandria was led by Jack Wensman, who finished with one goal and one assist. Wensman scored 1:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria. Matt Matt Resch picked up the assist. The Cardinals racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Alexandria had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Cardinals put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Prairie Centre to score on any of its nine power plays. Alexandria's offense rang up 39 shots on the North Stars' net. Alexandria also got points from Brady Bast, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Patrick Leary, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Toby Helgeson, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Tom Schmidt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Alexandria came via Parker Revering and Ryan Marciniak, who each chipped in one. Prairie Centre managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The North Stars wound up below its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game. Ben Allen rejected 19 shots on goal for the Cardinals. Alexandria registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Prairie Centre's Clay Deters stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced.
