Minnetonka hangs on, beats Wayzata 3-1Plymouth Ice Center Thu, Jan 24, 2013 The Minnetonka Skippers beat the Wayzata Trojans, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. A goal 5:05 into the the first period by Max Coatta proved to be the game winner, and powered Minnetonka to the victory Connor Thie picked up the assist.The Skippers were led by Austin Burt, who racked up one goal. Burt scored 14:55 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Minnetonka. AJ Klein provided the assist. By firing 32 shots on goal, Minnetonka exceeded the 4.9 shots it averages per game this year. Jack Ramsey also scored for Minnetonka. More assists for Minnetonka came via Tommy Vannelli, who had one. Wayzata could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Trojans put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Wayzata's offense was clicking better than usual and put 22 shots on goal during the game, better than the 6.2 shots per game it averages. The Trojans were led by Matthew Freytag, who scored the team's only goal. Freytag scored 23 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Minnetonka. Jack Sorensen picked up the assist. Paul Ciaccio rejected 21 shots on goal for the Skippers. Minnetonka incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Wayzata's Aaron Dingman stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Trojans incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
