North High squeaks by Simley, 4-3

The North High Polars and the Simley Spartans were evenly matched throughout their contest, but North High made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jake Dahlberg at 15:48 of the third period.

Mark Meister had two goals and one assist to lead the Polars. Meister scored the first of his two goals at 5:32 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Justin Oliver provided the assist. Meister's next tally made the score 3-2 North High with 8:55 left in the third period. North High found itself down a man on Tyler Oliver's slashing. Oliver picked up the assist.

The Polars' penalty kill excelled, as North High gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

The Polars stifled Simley's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. North High could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

North High also got points from Oliver, who also finished with one goal and one assist.

The Spartans' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five North High power plays.

Simley was helped by Ben Illestchko, who had one goal. Illestchko scored short handed 13:20 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Simley. The Spartans were on a disadvantage when Nick Kemp went off the ice for elbowing. Nick Battis provided the assist. Simley also got a goal from Nick McCoy as well. In addition, Simley received assists from Aaron Leafgren, who had one.

Steve Orne recorded 18 saves for the Polars. Mike Sarantos rejected 21 shots on goal for Simley. The Spartans incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
