Early goals doom South St.Paul, falls to Hill-Murray, 11-3Aldrich Arena Sat, Jan 19, 2013 A five-goal first period deficit cost the South St.Paul Packers, which could not recover and fell to the Hill-Murray Pioneers, 11-3. Mitch Slattery was all over the ice for Hill-Murray, as he tallied four goals and two assists in the win. Slattery got on the scoresheet 3:12 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:11 into the first, at 9:35 into the first, and at 10:06 into the third. The Pioneers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow South St.Paul to score on any of its three power plays. Hill-Murray's goal total was higher than its season average. The Pioneers average 4.6 goals per game. The 51 shots that Hill-Murray put on net surpassed the Pioneers' average of 2.1 shots per game this season. Hill-Murray also got points from Logan Sharp, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Coten Greeder, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, and Zach LaValle, who also registered two goals and two assists. Hill-Murray also got a goal from Curt LaChappelle as well. More assists for Hill-Murray came via Zach Mills, who had two, Sam Becker, who had three, and Mike Rawlings, Josh French, and Willie Brown, who contributed one a piece. Sam Illgen made 14 saves for Hill-Murray on 17 shots. The Pioneers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Grant Amelse rejected 40 shots on goal for the Packers. South St.Paul incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
