Eveleth-Gilbert rolls over Pine City/Rush City, 9-1Eveleth Hippodrome Fri, Feb 15, 2013 The Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-1 win over the Pine City/Rush City Dragons. Eveleth-Gilbert got the win on the strength of a great game by Brett Kivela, who had two goals and one assist. Kivela scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Eveleth-Gilbert. The Golden Bears had gotten the advantage when Pine City/Rush City's Ashton LeBrun was sent off for interference. Mitchell Huffman picked up the assist. Kivela's next tally on the power play made the score 4-1 Eveleth-Gilbert with 19:59 left in the second period. Nick Moe assisted on the tally. Eveleth-Gilbert kept the Dragons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tony Pitzen made 40 saves on 49 shots. The Golden Bears bested their season scoring average. Eveleth-Gilbert additionally got points from Huffman, who also tallied one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Moe, who also grabbed two goals and two assists, and Greg Fautch, who also had one goal and one assist. Eveleth-Gilbert also had goals scored by Sam Roberts, who had one and Zach Skelton, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Eveleth-Gilbert were Jeff Loftus, who had two, Cole Jackson, who had three, and Luke Rozinka, Cole Kopp, and Daniel Rodriguez, who contributed one a piece. Pine City/Rush City could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Dragons put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game.
