Ely Arena    Tue, Dec 11, 2012

Behind a great game by Mitchell Huffman, who had four goals and one assist, the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears defeated the Ely/Northeast Range Timberwolves, 10-1.

Huffman notched his first tally 53 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 2:35 into the first, at 11:49 into the second, and at 16:00 into the third.

Eveleth-Gilbert's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Ely/Northeast Range power plays. The Golden Bears forced Ely/Northeast Range goalie Lori Huseby to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots. Eveleth-Gilbert surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Golden Bears have scored at the pace of 5.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Eveleth-Gilbert also got points from Sam Roberts, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Daniel Rodriguez, who also registered one goal and one assist. Eveleth-Gilbert also had goals scored by Luke Rozinka, who had one and Cole Kopp, who had two. In addition, Eveleth-Gilbert received assists from Zach Skelton, who had two and Brett Kivela and Cole Jackson, who contributed one a piece.

The Timberwolves stifled Eveleth-Gilbert's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ely/Northeast Range did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Timberwolves average 3.3 goals per game.

Ely/Northeast Range was led by Carter Manning, who scored the team's only goal. Manning scored short handed 8:45 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Eveleth-Gilbert.

Chad Hietela made 21 saves for the Golden Bears on 22 shots. Eveleth-Gilbert incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Huseby recorded 44 saves for the Timberwolves. Ely/Northeast Range incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
