Warroad survives Crookston comeback, wins 3-1Crookston Civic Arena Sat, Jan 12, 2013 The Crookston Pirates tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Warroad Warriors held on for a 3-1 victory. Warroad made the score 3-0 on a goal by Casey Anderson at 12:46 in the second period, and Crookston got as close as 3-1 when Ryan Edevold scored 9:00 into the third period. The Warriors were led by goalie Justin King, who finished with 47 saves while allowing one goal. King managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.03 prior to the game. Warroad excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Warriors' offense rang up 46 shots on the Pirates' net. Warroad could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game. The Warriors were helped by Kyle Sylvester, who finished with one goal. Sylvester scored 7:09 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Warroad. Brandon Newhouse provided the assist. Warroad also got points from Anderson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Warroad also got a goal from Jared Bethune as well. In addition, Warroad received assists from Kobe Roth, who had one. Crookston's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Warroad power plays. The Pirates were held below their usual level of production. Crookston puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. The Pirates' offense rang up 48 shots on Warroad's net. Parker Epema rejected 43 shots on goal for Crookston. The Pirates incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
