Magnusson nets hat trick, leads Detroit Lakes to 8-5 win over Kittson Central

A hat trick by Taylor Magnusson was the highlight in Lakers' 8-5 win against the Kittson Central Wolfpack.

Magnusson notched his first tally 30 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 10:22 into the first and at 12:45 into the second.

The Detroit Lakes Lakers forced Kittson Central goalie Tucker Cosley to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. Detroit Lakes surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Lakers average 2.7 goals per contest. Detroit Lakes' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Detroit Lakes additionally got points from Michael Hermann, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Austin Rusness, who also finished with one goal and three assists, and Ryan Deconcini, who also racked up two goals and two assists. More assists for Detroit Lakes came via Connor Collins, who had two and Tanner Steele, Jonathan Hallisey, Isaac Fondrick, and Casey Paskey, who each chipped in one.

The Wolfpack kept the Lakers' goalie busy throughout the game, and MacKenzie Steele made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Kittson Central was led by Nick Kasprowicz, who finished with one goal and three assists. Kasprowicz scored on the power play 15:32 into the third period to make the score 8-5 Detroit Lakes. Scott Mortenson provided the assist. Kyle Petersburg also scored for Kittson Central. In addition, Kittson Central received assists from Anders Lindegard, who had one.

Detroit Lakes ended with no penalties and went 0-for-0 on the power play. Cosley recorded 35 saves for the Wolfpack. Kittson Central finished the contest with no penalties and went 1-for-0 with the man advantage.
